Saivite Tamil Foundation - Rishi' visit to Sri Lanka

Where:  Elderly Homes (4), Vavuniya.

When:  October, 2009

I visited four homes for the elders. Their residents were recently released from IDP camps. 
Two of these homes are in Vavuniya and the other two are in Mannar Disrict. 

Most of the elders here are alone now having lost their family members in the war, and many more do not know what has happened to the rest of their families. Some are permanently disabled. They have been thrust into such dire and sad circumstances by the horrendous war after generations of peaceful lives in their home towns. Two of these homes are run by nuns. Despite the hardships that these people have gone through, they still had the strength and dignity to welcome me to their homes joyously. It was very heart warming to see such spirit.
