Saivite Tamil Foundation - Rishi' visit to Sri Lanka

During my recent visit to Jaffna, I came across a school consisting of about 250 children, all IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons), but those who were displaced 14 years ago during the 1996 exodus. For all these years, they have been living as refugees in shacks along unused and neglected railway lines in Jaffna. The school was at one time a thriving institution located in the coastal area 
of Jaffna -- an area which is now a high security zone and out of limits for ordinary civilians. The school is now being run out of temporary shelter within the premises of Ramanthan College. There was a time when these families were living a contented life, working in their traditional jobs in the fishing and farming communities. Their only wish is to return to their homes and live in peace.

We were able to provide some of these children with a few essential school supplies. 
We hope and pray that these children will be able to return to their normal lives soon.
